Metaphorically, Azerbaijan is called "land of fire", as its territory is full of oil and gas, located nearly to the ground. Friendly and generous azerbaijanis are very hospitable and always glad to help if necessary. Azerbaijani cuisine is remarkable for the abundance of all kinds of meat, fish and vegetable dishes, accomplished by fragrant greens and a great variety of spices.

Climate

Azerbaijan will amaze tourists with its nature, its coast and rivers, high mountain ranges and plains, semi-deserts and woodlands.

The fauna is very diverse and has about 12,000 species. In the forests there are bears, wolves, deers, lynxs and wild boars.

Wild boars, roe deer, badgers and jackals inhabit the valleys of the Kura and Araz.

Under the largest animals that inhabit Azerbaijan is the local gazelle (jeyran), the Dagestan turs and the chamois. In the shallow bays of the Caspian Sea, the world of birds is abundant and diverse: pheasants, partridges, black grouse. Ducks, geese, swans, herons, pelicans, flamingos, cormorants and other birds come to Azerbaijan for wintering. Even the habitats of mountain leopards, which until recently were considered extinct species were found.

Mugam

Mugam is a form of national music belonging to the peoples of the East.

There are seven main mughams in Azerbaijani music: Rast, Shur, Segah, Shushter, Chahargyakh, Bayati Shiraz, Humayun. They differ from each other in originality of essence and musical character. It is performed by a trio of Sazandaries (performers) - a tarist, a kyamanchist and a khanende (soloist) with a percussion instrument Deff (resembles a tambourine).

Even the most fastidious gourmand who visits the country will be astonished by the fine taste and delicate aroma of Azerbaijani cuisine.

The history of the creation of national dishes goes back in centuries and is based on the vast experience of the generations, being preserved until now. No wonder the country became famous as the country of long-livers, which is explained by the nutritional principles exclusively featuring natural products. Exclusive Azerbaijani dishes - dolma, bozbash, bosartma, chyhyrtma, hashil, shish kebab, pilaf - are included in national menus of many regions of the Caucasus.

Baku

Baku, one of the most beautiful world’s cities is located at the joint of Europe and Asia.

The capital’s name itself is interpreted as a “city of winds” or “city on the hill”.Baku is also the largest industrial center in the Caucasus region. It is the place of concentration of ancient oil fields, well-known Oil Stones, unique plant of deep water foundations, high-capacity derrick barges, and modern drilling floating units. It is also famous for developed oil refineries, petrochemical, chemical, light, food, engineering branches of industry, oil equipment production, building materials, instrumentation, electrical engineering and radio electronics, shipbuilding. Baku is a large rail junction and port terminal in the Caspian Sea. Beginning from 1967 the Baku underground was put into operation in the capital.

I have visited more than a hundred different airports around the world — from small sheds in the middle of nowhere to huge aerotropolises in the largest metropolises. But nowhere have I experienced such aesthetic satisfaction as in Baku.

I could say that coming to Baku is worth it just to look at the airport.
